The 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship was the final game of the 2018-19 NCAA Division I (FBS) College Football Season, played on January 7, 2019 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game pitted the undefeated, #1 ranked Ole Miss Rebels of the Southeastern Conference against the #2, undefeated Michigan Wolverines of the Big Ten Conference. It was the first time that both teams entering the game were undefeated, and the third time that the top two seeds advanced to play one another.
Ole Miss, featuring Heisman-winning quarterback Shea Patterson, the SEC's highest-scoring offense in history and a top-five ranked defense, defeated Notre Dame 42-13 in the 2018 Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas to advance to the game, while Michigan, featuring the country's best defense and having won every game of the season by an average of 14 points, beat 11-1 Big XII champion Texas Christian University 19-13 in the 2018 Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.
In the game, Ole Miss defeated Michigan 24-16 after a second-half comeback having entered halftime down 13-7. Ole Miss won their first-ever consensus national championship (and second recognized along with a shared national title in 1960 with Minnesota and Washington) and became the first undefeated team to win a CFP, meaning the 2018 Ole Miss Rebels were the first 15-0 team in college football history. The 2018 Ole Miss squad was later ranked as the "Team of the Decade" by ESPN.
